Novosibirsk authorities and poultry farmers established an agreement to control egg prices until March 22, 2024, reported the Novosibirsk Antimonopoly Service press office on December 26.
The Ministry of Agriculture in Novosibirsk has made a deal with six regional poultry farms, requiring them to voluntarily restrict egg prices, with a permissible price increase of no more than 5%.
The agreement is in effect until March 22, 2024, as announced by the Novosibirsk Antimonopoly Service on December 26. Notably, the Russian presidential elections are slated for March 15-17, 2024.
Driven by substantial demand, egg prices skyrocketed in October 2023, forcing residents in Saratov, Belgorod, and Krasnoyarsk to queue for a box of 10 eggs priced less than 100 rubles. In December, the Lenta supermarket chain implemented restrictions on the quantity of egg boxes sold to an individual in various regions. The Federal Antimonopoly Service initiated investigations against egg manufacturers from Voronezh, Ivanovo, and Kemerovo regions, suspecting them of engaging in a cartel conspiracy.
